Job Description: 

The Group Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the entire financial control and reporting functions across the Group. This position ensures the integrity and accuracy of consolidated financial information, compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements (including Bursa Malaysia listing requirements), and provides strategic financial insights to the Group CFO and senior management team. The Group Financial Controller plays a crucial role in establishing and maintaining a strong internal control environment and driving financial best practices across the organization.

 

Summary:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive financial reporting strategy aligned with the overall business objectives.
  • Lead the financial reporting team in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial reports in accordance with relevant regulations, accounting standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Group CFO to provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity and effectiveness within the financial reporting function.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Management and Financial Reporting & Consolidation:

  • Manage the group-wide month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring adherence to strict deadlines and consistent application of accounting policies.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely submission of accurate consolidated financial statements in accordance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, including Bursa Malaysia, as well as taxation submission.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely consolidation of financial results from all subsidiaries and business units.
  • Ensure compliance with Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) regulations for corporate and indirect taxes.
  • Oversee the preparation of all internal and external financial reports
  • Prepare and review complex accounting treatments and ensure proper documentation.

 

Accounting Policy & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain group accounting policies and procedures in compliance with MFRS, regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Ensure consistent application of accounting policies across all entities within the group.
  • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the group's financial reporting.

 

Internal Controls & Risk Management:

  • Establish and maintain a strong and effective internal control framework across the group to safeguard assets and ensure the reliability of financial information.
  • Lead adherence and compliance to all internal policies/guidelines and external regulatory requirements
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of internal controls and recommend improvements. Ensure that the BNM / external / internal audit findings / compliance review / Shariah reviews issues are timely addressed and rectified and ensure non-recurring of the same issues.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors on financial control matters.
  • Participate in risk assessment activities and contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies.

 

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:

  • Oversee the group-wide budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Analyze consolidated financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insightful variance analysis and recommendations to senior management.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) at the group level.
  • Support strategic decision-making with robust financial analysis and modeling.

 

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the group financial control and reporting team.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment within the team.

 

Others:

  • Effectively communicate financial information and insights to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments / stakeholders to ensure alignment and integration of financial reporting activities.
  • Represent the Bank in interactions with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Any other adhoc tasks / deliverables assigned by GCFO

 

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance,
  • Professional certification and qualifications such as ICAEW / ACCA / CPA / CFA / MIA etc.

 

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a financial reporting role, preferably within the banking / financial services sector.
  • Experience in corporate finance / advisory will be an added advantage

 

Specific Skills/Knowledge and Certification Required

  • Proven track record of success in leading and managing a financial reporting team.
  • Proven experience in managing the consolidation of financial statements for a group of companies.
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian financial regulations, accounting standards, and taxation principles.
  • Strong understanding of internal control frameworks and risk management principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
