Head, Group Statutory Reporting & Policy
Job Purpose
To lead the Group's statutory reporting, financial consolidation, accounting policy and technical accounting functions, ensuring the integrity of the Group's external financial reporting and compliance with applicable accounting, governance and regulatory requirements.
The role serves as the Group's central authority on accounting policy, financial reporting interpretation and consolidation matters, and is responsible for maintaining a robust financial reporting governance framework across the Group.
As the principal point of contact for external auditors and Bank Negara Malaysia on financial reporting and accounting matters, the incumbent plays a key role in safeguarding the Group's financial reporting integrity and supporting the Financial Management & Control function in fulfilling its financial stewardship responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Group Financial Reporting & Consolidation
- Lead the Group's statutory reporting and consolidation framework.
- Ensure the timely and accurate issuance of statutory financial statements and disclosures.
- Oversee the consolidation of Group financial results, ensuring the integrity, completeness and consistency of financial information reported by subsidiaries.
- Review and challenge financial information submitted by subsidiaries to ensure compliance with Group reporting requirements and accounting policies.
- Drive continuous enhancement of reporting processes, controls and governance.
2. Accounting Policy & Reporting Governance
- Own and maintain the Group Accounting Policy Framework.
- Lead the assessment, interpretation and implementation of new accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- Establish accounting positions for significant transactions, business initiatives and strategic projects.
- Develop accounting policies, technical papers and reporting guidance.
- Promote consistent application of accounting policies and sound financial reporting practices across the Group.
3. Technical Accounting Leadership
- Serve as the Group's principal technical accounting advisor.
- Provide guidance on complex accounting, reporting and disclosure matters.
- Assess accounting implications arising from new products, strategic initiatives, restructurings and other significant transactions.
- Advise Management and governance committees on accounting and financial reporting matters.
4. External Audit Management
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Lead audit planning, coordination and issue resolution.
- Manage discussions relating to significant accounting judgements, estimates and disclosures.
- Ensure timely resolution of audit findings and recommendations.
5. Regulatory & External Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary liaison with Bank Negara Malaysia on accounting, financial reporting and disclosure matters.
- Lead engagements relating to accounting interpretations, reporting governance and financial statement disclosures.
- Advise Management on the financial reporting implications of regulatory and accounting developments.
- Represent the Group on financial reporting and accounting policy matters with regulators and external stakeholders.
6. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Partner with the Group Financial Controller in strengthening the Group's financial management and control framework.
- Collaborate with Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit, Treasury, Taxation, Company Secretariat and subsidiary finance teams to support effective financial reporting governance.
- Support Senior Management, Board Committees and the Board on financial reporting, accounting policy and governance matters.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and professional excellence.
Key Accountabilities
The incumbent is accountable for:
- Integrity, accuracy and completeness of the Group's consolidated financial statements and statutory disclosures.
- Timely delivery of statutory reporting obligations.
- Effective governance and consistent application of Group accounting policies.
- Compliance with applicable accounting standards, Companies Act requirements and regulatory expectations.
- Effective management of external audit and regulatory engagements relating to financial reporting matters.
- Provision of sound technical accounting advice and reporting guidance across the Group.
- Maintenance of a robust financial reporting governance and control framework.
